When I was a little kid, no one told me that there were jobs available that you got to write and travel the world about the things you saw and experienced for other people to read. I would have been the only primary school kid who understood without a doubt that he desired to be a traveling journalist. A highlight of my journeys has actually been gathering a bowl or two at each place I've visited.
I've always loved bowls and pottery. I guess it began due to the fact that my daddy was an expert potter and so he was always at the wheel tossing pots and bowls and other things. I enjoyed getting back from school and spending hours just seeing my daddy work on his wheel. I like every kind of pottery he made, however nothing could delight me as much as an excellent bowl.
When I began traveling it was just read more natural that I would gather a bowl or 2 in each location I saw. I knew it was going to be harder than I thought to narrow things down to no more than 2 bowls per nation.
I now have almost sixty bowls from all around the world. I have bowls from every continent. Some were made in front of me by a local potter, others I bought from big storage facilities that sold bowls at discount rate. I have two large shelves in my home where bowl after bowl sits awaiting usage. I am continuously rotating the bowls I use for cereal and salads and other things.
I suggest that you choose a terrific souvenier idea ahead of time if you are about to venture out into the world for traveling. For me, buying a bowl or more has worked. See if it might work for you too.
